Happy Holidays

We had a fantastic year!

Have a wonderful summer everyone.

Slán leat!

See you next year when we are in Senior Infants!

Our Walk to the Park

We had a teddy bears picnic in the park for our school tour.

We walked to the park.

We brought our teddies with us!

We played in the playground.

We had a picnic.

We had so much fun!

When we came back to the classroom we wrote "We had fun in the park." in our sentence copies.

Summer in June

We had a great time learning about summer.

We had our Aistear outside for a week. We played with the children in Room 1.

We used giant chalks to draw on the ground and the walls.

We made wonderful creations with junk art materials.

We played with the water outside.

We had a PE station where we made up our own games.

We played in the ice cream van role play.

On the last day Ms Walsh and Ms Fox were the ice cream people and they served us real ice cream in cones! It was delicious.

We visited the school garden to check on our garlic. It has grown so big! It is definitely ready for harvesting.

We met a visitor creeping around. Hello ladybird!

We made rainbow fish using oil pastels and paint.

We painted sandcastles one week. The following week we glued sand on them to make them real!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We loved this book.

We did many activities based on this story - drawing, writing, sticking, cutting, gluing, printing and painting!

Listen to the story here.

Music Week

Music week took place May 30th - June 2nd. We had a wonderful week.

We had a drumming workshop during music week. Our teacher's name was Neil and he bad so many drums and some other instruments like the cow bell, the wood block, the agogo and more!  We had so much fun keeping the beat and playing different rhythms.

When we got back to the classroom we wrote a sentence about the drums.

We had a talent show in the hall. We performed as a whole class. We sang the song "There was a Princess Long Ago." We had great fun watching children from other classes showcase their talent. The children in Scoil Mhuire are so talented!

We have been talking part in Magic of Music since February. Our teacher is Catherine and she is fantastic! We always have so much fun with her. Here are some of the great things we have done with Catherine.

During Music Week all of the Junior Infants went into the hall and had a class with Catherine.

Sight Words

Sight words are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorise as a whole by sight, so that they can automatically recognise these words in print without having to use any strategies to decode them.

We have learned 40 sight words.

a, big, can, down, go, help, I, jump, little, not, play, red, the, up, we, yellow, and, blue, here, in, is, it, me, run, see, to, my, funny, one, two, three, look, you, said, make, for, come, find, away, where.

To introduce each word I read a story which contains the word on each page.

You can read these stories with your children. Ask your child to find the words they know.
Some stories are a pdf file from mothershubbard.com, others are in powerpoint.

Learning about Our Locality and Visiting the Library in May

We learned all about Clondalkin in May. We went on a walk around the school to see some of the special things in Clondalkin.

We drew some of the buildings we saw in our copies. We labelled our pictures.

We drew the round tower, Scoil Mhuire and the church.

We wrote that we were going to visit the library.

Towards the end of the month we visited the library in Clondalkin. It is a short walk from our school. The library is fantastic. We had to go upstairs to the children's section. There are so many books there. The library assistant told us about her job and how we can join the library too.

Click here to visit the website for the library. Scroll down the page to find a link explaining what events are being held in the library in June.

We played in the library role-play during Aistear.

We played with the farm small world during Aistear.
