Travel and Transport in February.

Our theme for February was Travel and Transport.

We learned the names of so many vehicles.

We constructed vehicles using egg cartons. Here they are up on the wall.

We recorded our journey to school.

We made fabric and fibre boats.

We  played in the travel agents during Aistear.

We made some great vehicles during Junk Art.

We also played with the cars and garage in our small world.

We drew vehicles in our copies.

We sorted vehicles into old vehicles and new vehicles.
We also sorted vehicles depending on where they travel - road, air, tracks or sky.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday the 3rd of March.

Some of the children brought in their favourite books.

We took part in DEAR time.

DEAR means Drop Everything And Read.

We wrote "I like books." in our copies.

Teacher read one of her favourite stories to us. It is called "A Squash and a Squeeze."

Wonderful Writing - c, a, d, g, o

We have started our formal writing.

We sit properly in our chairs with our two feet flat on the ground. We hold the crayon in our writing hand and we hold our other hand flat on the copy so it does not move when we are writing.

We started with the letter c.

You start at the top, go back up, all around and stop to make a c.

On Tuesday we did our rainbow c. On Wednesday we completed two lines of c in our writing copy and on Thursday we finished the page in our writing copies. On Friday we did the page about the letter c in our writing book.

The next week we learned how to write the letter a.

You start at the top, go back up and all around like a c, straight up and straight down with a kick.

Following this we learned how to write the letter d.

You start at the dot, go back up, all around like a c, straight up, up, up, up, up and straight down, down, down with a kick.

Then we learned how to write the letter g.

You start at the dot, go back up, all around like a c, straight up and straight down, down, down under the line and kick it back.

We learned how to write the letter q.

You start at the dot, go back up, all around like a c, straight up and straight down, down, down under the line and with a kick.

Finally we learned how to write the letter o.

You start at the top, go back up, all around like a c and close it.

Grandparents Day

We celebrated grandparents day on Wednesday the 3rd of February. Some of our grandparents were able to come visit us that day. It was wonderful having the grandparents in school and showing them some of the things we do.

We also wrote grandparent's day in our copies and drew pictures of our grandparents. We did a great job.

Winter wonderings in January

We have been learning all about winter.

We went on a winter walk.

We made robins with crayons and crepe paper.

We made chalk drawings based on the story of Jack Frost.

We made snow globe paintings.

We kept track of the weather for two weeks. It's cold in winter!

We played in the weather station role play area.

Shapes, Shapes, Shapes!

We have learned so much about these flat shapes.

Rectangle:

Ricky Rectangle is my name

My four sides are not the same

2 are short and 2 are long

Count my sides come right along.

We learned these shape songs:

We used shapes to make pictures.

We went on a shape walk outside.

We played a shape hunt game in the hall.

When we were finished we made pictures with the shapes.
